"Captain's log, Star Date 450457.2. We are en route to the uninhabited Tamarian system where Star Fleet has intercepted signals from a civilization who possibly are ready to make contact with us. Therefore, Star Fleet command has sent an urgent request for our diplomatic assistance for integrating a new civilization into Star Fleet Federation. We have been [[briefed]] about our objectives to learn more about the cultural and social practices of this unknown Tamarian society." As you step through through the hissing hydraulic doors into the briefing room with Lt. Data and Counselor Troi following you. Commander Riker and Lt. LaForge are already sitting, waiting for you to proceed with the meeting. "Welcome everyone," you say, "let's review our objectives from Star Fleet, shall we?" Turning to Lt. Data you ask, "what can you tell us?" "The Tamarians, or Children of Tamar as they call themselves, have reached Star Port 069 in the Tamarian system and are emitting continuous subspace communication. However, the subspace signals are nothing but simple mathematical equations." "Which the Federation, I'm assuming, considers this an attempt to communicate?" Commander Riker says. "Precisely Commander," Data continues, "However, it appears Star Fleet has encountered the Tamarians several times in the past 100 years, yet each incident did not produce any formal Federation ties and were, again, the Tamarians were considered incomprehensible by the Federation." "The could be considered a threat on our border because we cannot communicate with them." Commander Riker suggests. "We have to remember from previous records that the Tamarians have always been peaceful and eager to establish some form of communication. I think it would be fair to at least make another [[diplomatic attempt]]." says Counselor Troi. "The Tamarians," Lt. Data begins, "have tried numerous times to send sub-space signals to Star Fleet." Lt. LaForge gawks, "What's the problem, then? Why hasn't Star Fleet requested formal relations with them?" "It seems to be a little more complicated than that." Data says, "You see, instead of sending encrypted messages that can be read in text, they have been using a simple mathematical progressive sub-space wave that only differentiates in length of time, not actually creating any comprehensible pattern or characters, again, leading them to be, well, [[ignored]]. "And with that being said, we can believe this is gesture of diplomacy and peace and it is our responsibility as Star Fleet to extend the hand back." As you stand, you rest your hands on the table facing across from Lt. Data. "Now, specifically, what are the [[objectives for the mission]], Mr. Data?"Double-click this passage to edit it.Double-click this passage to edit it.
